Drained

Taking lunch here… is a good thing

Some days, weeks, months just drain you.

For me my time is at the end of any of the semesters. Usually around the last week in April until halfway through May. So here we are, just now recovering from the mass of work that has swamped me. And I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I always have to temper my enthusiasm, because there is a long summer of work ahead of me. But the ever present press of deadlines and students stressing over their work is lifted for right now.

Sure there are always deadlines, and yes there will always be students lurking about when you work at a university but the end of the spring semester is probably one of the most stressful times of the year. Students are literally fighting for their careers, their academic lives and their stress wears off on everyone around them. They take worse care of themselves, stay up late and frankly run themselves into the ground. They get ill and pass the fun on to the support people who are trapped in their offices.

Last year and this year i got really nasty sick at the end of the spring semester, caught from whatever cesspool of infection is running through the studios. My doctor suggests i wear a mask when people come in hacking up a lung. Like Japan during the SARS epidemic. I might have to consider that. Until next year i get to Lysol the hell out of my office each week.
