One of the toughest mental challenges I ever attempted was the NaNoWriMo event of 2008. Basically the idea is to come up with a novel, story or collective piece of work that totals over 50,000 words. And you need to do this in the space of a month, November. Nanowrimo National Novel Writing Month

To finish you need to average 1,667 words per day. Remember you need to take into account that Thanksgiving and real life eats into your writing time something fierce.

Last year i was writing a tale, which still isn’t finished, nor edited, but hit the 50,000 word mark and collapsed. I love the story and I’m going to need to finish and edit it. I’ve been thinking about putting last year’s work out as an audio book, it will make me finish and edit it all in one swoop, hopefully.

Just on typing alone thats a tall order. For someone as scatter brained as myself its a test of concentration and motivation all rolled into one. I actually did it last year, which i still can’t believe.

So I’ll be doing so again this year, because i like to hurt myself, and I need to kick start myself back into productivity. Sometimes the only way to do so is to write.

This year i haven’t decided if I’m going to write a story of a boy and his dragon, or if i’ll try for something else. I think the dragon is winning

Either way it should be fun. Why don’t you give it a try as well? The website has a ton of forums and social things. I’m not so much a forum monkey any more i prefer to write and just try and get there. You might be different, and probably are
